Alexander's warehouse on market
Real Estate Weekly, Jan 6, 1993
New York City's largest single story industrial building is now in the market for a tenant and its owner says the 400,000-square-foot structure has the ability to serve a broad spectrum of uses ranging from refrigerated food storage, to a recycling facility, to support space for neighboring Rikers Island.
Gary Rodolitz, a co-parmer of Rodolitz Associates, and owners of the oneeighth mile long, reinforced concrete and steel building, says it had been the primary Alexander's warehouse before the retail company ffled Chapter 11.
Rodolitz said if they had taken everything Alexanders had stored in the building, they could have created a line of merchandise "stretching from the Bronx to the Battery".
The building, located, in the Hunts Point Section of the Bronx, is in a business expansion zone, that will provide tenants with economic incentives.
The site is adjacent to the East River, with access to a city dock, with 4O-foot deep water. This location also has a connecting rail spur coming right onto the property to make rail shipment another option.
The property has 50 loading docks, and is located in the center of all of the major highways connecting to New England, New Jersey and the Middle Ariantic states.
