Sheldon Good gavels down $20,000 at FIABCI Scholarship Foundation auction

Steven L. Good, president of Sheldon Good & Company, wielded the gavel as an elegant assembly crowded the first annual FIABCI-USA Foundation Dinner and Scholarship Auction recently at New York's exclusive Lotos Club. Joining him were Rene Frank, former FIABCI Deputy World President for the Americas, and Todd L. Good, Vice President, Western Region, Sheldon Good & Company International.

"The evening was great fun. I was delighted to see such spirited bidding," Good said. "The FIABCI-USA Scholarship Foundation is a great cause; it is an important means by which the Federation preserves the industry's great heritage and nurtures new talent. The evening was a special thrill for me, as my father, Sheldon Good, is a former FIABCI-USA president and is currently World President-elect of FIABCI."

Owen Gwyn, Scholarship Foundation President, FIABCI-USA, said: "We are thrilled with the auction results and most grateful to Steve Good and Sheldon Good & Company International for raising over $12,000 to aid deserving students interested in international real estate. It was a splendid evening for a worthy cause."

The highlight of the evening was the auction of an original document, dated October 1702, by the Courts of Pennsylvania, setting forth an appraisal of a property to be foreclosed in Philadelphia. It is believed to be the earliest known official real estate appraisal in the United States. Robert Hatcher, principal, Hatcher & Eiland, of Marietta, Georgia, submitted a winning bid of $900.

Among the other highly prized auction items were: signed and numbered lithographs of internationally acclaimed artists Otavio Roth, Peter Max, and Jessie Oonark, all commissioned by the United Nations; and framed and numbered envelopes with colorful prints and United Nations stamps, commemorating the International Year of the Family, and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, both by acclaimed Chinese artist Ting Shao Kuang.

Additional coveted items on the block were: framed envelopes commemorating the 50th anniversary of the United Nations, signed in a limited edition issue by artist H. Lamb; a round-trip ticket from Delta Airlines to Tokyo; dinners at Aureole and Gino's; ocean-front accommodations at the exclusive Sol/Miami Beach Hotel; a bottle of Dom Perignon champagne; a Michael Jordan-autographed Chicago Bulls jersey; a Triple Crown baseball autographed by Ted Williams, Mickey Mantle, Frank Robinson and Carl Yasztremski; a Joe Montana-autographed Notre Dame Cotton Bowl football; a weekend at the Warner Ranch; six box seats to the Houston Polo Club; and one week at the Kona, Hawaii, Studio Ocean-front Condo.

The FIABCI-USA scholarships provide aid to students demonstrating an interest in the field of international real estate or enrolling in real estate courses at a qualified university. Contributors may allocate their donations to any of four scholarship funds: the Vance Otis Scholarship; the Maurice Acers Scholarship; the A. Alexander Bul Scholarship; or the General Fund. New scholarships may be established through a founding contribution of $25,000. The trustees have established four donor categories: Friends ($100); Donors ($500); Patrons ($1,000) and Benefactors ($5,000). All donations are tax-deductible.
