Real Estate Weekly, March 24, 1993
Butler Rogers Baskett (BRB), the New York-based architecture and interior design firm, has created the master plan for the Chelsea Piers Recreation and Entertainment Complex on New York City's Hudson River waterfront. An historic renovation and reuse project, it comprises four existing piers, a headhouse, sheds and adjacent land that extend from West 22nd to West 17th Streets.
Butler Rogers Baskett is also doing the detailed design of Piers 59, 60 and 61, which comprise the major part of this ambitious project being developed by Chelsea Piers Management, Inc. Butler Rogers Baskett's design includes a four-level outdoor golf driving range, an indoor 200-meter track suitable for official meets, an Olympic gymnastics training center, two Olympic-sized skating rinks, plus viewing, food and service areas.
The entire complex will total approximately 750,000 square feet of enclosed space, which will also include a 250,000-square-foot film and television production center, plus a 70,000square-foot public park, with sailing school and marina development.
