New businesses ready to open
Real Estate Weekly, May 26, 1993
A surge of recent activity, led by medical related facilities and restaurants, is changing the face of CityCenter Danbury. In a dramatic turnaround, businesses and facilities occupying more than 60,000 square feet of space - both recently leased and in projects under development - will open by July of 1993. Several other leases are under negotiation and will result in additional openings shortly thereafter.
By comparison, during the first six months of 1992 less than 10,000 square feet of space was newly occupied in the area.
The largest of the new facilities is the Main Street Rehabilitation Center, Danbury Hospital's free-standing, independent state-of-the-art physical rehabilitation center which is scheduled to open later this summer. The 40,000-square-foot centrally located facility will include Independence Square, which will help patients re-learn the skills of daily living in scaled-down replicas of a grocery store, bank, restaurant, outdoor park, crosswalk, beach, garage and several rooms of a house. The facility will also contain traditional therapy environments. It will attract more than 500 people daily-medical-patients, their families and friends. It is slated to open in July.
The new rehabilitation center is adjacent to the Galleria, a 35,000-square-foot office and retail building where leasing activity is underway. The Galleria will open in the late fall.
