Real Estate Weekly, May 18, 1994

Henry G. Cisneros, Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, will be the featured speaker at the fifth annual "Pension Fund Investment in Real Estate" conference, to be sponsored by New York University's Real Estate Institute on Monday and Tuesday, May 23rd and 24th, at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel.

Secretary Cisneros will address a 12:15 p.m. luncheon on Monday in the Hilton Room on the subject "Economically Targeted Investing - The Time Has Come: The Role of Domestic Pension Plans in the Building and Rebuilding of the United States."

Arthur Zabarkes, director of the Real Estate Institute, said the conference will bring together the nation's leading real estate and investment experts to share their insights into the complex decisions facing those responsible for pension funds.

The event will provide managers, investment advisors and trustees with cutting edge investment strategies for 1994 and beyond.

The Real Estate Institute's Pension Conference will address such topical questions as: Where are the most lucrative opportunities for real estate investment abroad? How will future demographic changes affect real estate investment? What will the future demand for and use of office space be like? How have Real Estate Investment Trusts impacted the real estate market? Do foreclosed and troubled real estate properties provide opportunities for the institutional investor?

At the Tuesday luncheon, William Orme, Jr., author of "Continental Shift: Free Trade and the New North America," will speak on "How the Passage of NAFTA Will Affect Real Estate Investment."

The general chairman of the conference is Stanley L. Iezman, president and CEO of American Realty Advisors of Glendale, California. Serving as moderators and panelists will be trustees and investment officers of major pension plans from the public and private sector. Among them, the Virginia Retirement System, the State of New York, the IBM Retirement Fund and E.I. Dupont de Nemours & Company, Inc.
