Barney Corporation, Endeco Group Ltd., and Munoz Engineering, P.C., are proceeding with pre-construction of this multi-phased project. The first major portion of construction will start in mid 1992 with overall completion in 1998.
Current plans included the major reconstruction of the existing Queens Hospital Center, a 551-bed acute care facility and construction of a new 305-bed long term care facility. The bed designations for the acute care hospital are: 218 medical/surgical, 18 medical intensive care, 8 surgical intensive care, 50 obstetric, 30 neonatal ICU, 33 pediatrics, 22 rehabilitations, 76 psychiatry, 46 substance abuse (drug and alcohol detoxication) and 50 newborn bassinets.
Queens Hospital Center is presently situated in 14 aging buildings on a 20-acre campus in Jamaica. The functions currently being provided in these buildings will be consolidated within the new facility. Under the new program the Queens Hospital Center will continue to provide a full range of ambulatory care services, acute medical and psychiatric inpatient services and emergency medical facilities.
