Real Estate Weekly, July 21, 1993
The second building of The Haven, an assisted-living community in Toms River, New Jersey, opened in June and is already one-third rented, announced Edele Hovnanian, senior vice president of H. Hovnanian Industries, owner/-developer.
The area's first assisted-living community in a garden apartment setting, The Haven is designed for those who need various levels of assistance with daily living activities in order to remain independent. it is located on the 55-acre campus of Holiday Manor, a retirement community of apartment homes also owned by H. Hovnanian Industries.
While nursing homes can cost more than $4,000 per month, residency at the Haven starts at $2,119 per month. This fee covers housing and all other services including all meals, a 24-hour resident assistant, an emergency response system, weekly housekeeping, linen and laundry service, social and recreational events, and transportation. The services of a home health aide are also included in the monthly fee. Additional services beyond the basic offerings are incorporated into a customized program for each individual.
Apartments at The Haven are joined by fully enclosed corridors with handrails to common areas including a dining room, library, lounge and mail area. Studio and one-bedroom units feature a kitchenette, wall-to-wall carpeting, draperies, a full-size bathroom with grab bars, individual heating and air conditioning, and an emergency call system.
The first building, which opened in the fall of 1992, is 100 percent occupied. Two additional buildings are planned with up to 22 apartmens each.
