Affordable homes underway in Far Rockaway, Queens

Real Estate Weekly, August 11, 1993

Brookhaven Manor, a SMZ Development Corporation project in association with the New York City Housing Partnership, New York City's Department of Housing, Preservation and Development, and the New York State Affordable Housing Corporation, broke ground on 16 three-story, two-family affordable homes located on Brookhaven Avenue between Beach 29th and Beach 30th Streets, Far Rockaway, Queens. These homes feature a three-bedroom, two and a half-bath duplex owners apartment with a large family room (or as an additional bedroom) plus a two-bedroom rental unit. The many features include wall-to-wall carpeting, ceramic tile baths with designer vanities and medicine cabinets, gourmet kitchens with designer oak-faced cabinetry, dishwasher, gas range, balconies, landscaping, and private parking. The principals are Morris Zakheim, Evelyn Mintz, and Jeffrey Stern. The building contractor is A&A Contracting Corp. of which Abe Rosenthal is its principal. Financing has been arranged by Chase Community Development Corp.

Many state and city officials attended the groundbreaking ceremonies including the Honorable Claire Shulman, borough president of Queens. The developers worked closely with the Queens borough presidents office as well as the New York City Housing Partnership and Chase Community Development Corp. The Rockaway Development and Revitalization Corp., the Deerfield Area Association Inc. and the Far Rockaway-Inwood and Ministerial Coalition are the local community sponsors for this project.
