Jos. A. Bank selects 1st Manhattan locale

Real Estate Weekly, Sept 22, 1993

Galbreath Riverbank L.P. just completed negotiating a 15-year, 18,000-square-foot lease for the first Manhattan site of upscale menswear retailer JoS. A. Bank Clothiers. The space, situated at 366 Madison Avenue on the southwest corner of 46th Street, will become the flagship store of the prominent men's clothier which has shops in major affluent areas throughout the United States.

Barry Lewen, executive director, and James Cabrera, associate managing director of Galbreath Riverbank represented both landlord and tenant in the transaction. According to Lewen, JoS. A. Bank Clothiers was interested in the New York market if the "perfect" location could be found, preferably in the heart of "Men's Store Row."

JoS. A. Bank Clothiers will join other high-end apparel stores such as Brooks Brothers and Paul Stuart in an area located on and around Madison Avenue in the mid-40's known as "Men's Store Row." The new lease maintains the high-profile status of the 15-story, 95,000-square-foot building, owned by Metropolitan Life, according to Lewen.

JoS. A. Bank will take possession of the space, which formally housed F.R. Tripler & Co. Haberdashers, in the first quarter of 1994 and will make significant renovations prior to opening in July 1994. Ken Sold and Ray Sanseverino of Corbin, Silver & Sanseverino provided legal representation in the transaction.
