The Components of SCM - supply chain management - Brief Article

Bobbin, May, 2000

Each component of the supply chain requires focused, experienced and knowledgeable management that can view the company's supply chains as a single, integrated totality, says Manoff. At the top of their priorities should be a high-level plan that encompasses the enterprise-wide synchronization and deployment of products and services across all supply chains to meet both operational needs and customer demands.

That plan should include: activities related to sourcing and purchasing from suppliers of all types; the process of manufacturing and configuring products or organizing operations to provide services or products; transportation, distribution and warehousing activities that get materials and products from suppliers to end customers and back; and the support. sales and marketing activities that service customers in buying, ordering, delivery and return and repair processes.
