In-Bed Turning Device - AliMed Inc. introduces Freedom Turner specialty tool - Brief Article - Product Announcement

Nursing Homes, Oct, 2001

AliMed, Inc., has developed the FREEDOM TURNER [TM], a specialty tool that allows caregivers to turn residents to either side while lying in bed. It is a flat tube of fabric with a slippery interior surface--an easy-to-use, modern draw sheet.

Instead of the usual two or more staff needed to turn a resident with a draw sheet, the FREEDOM TURNER requires only one. The caregiver positions the resident on top of the tube, then grabs the reinforced edges of the top layer and pulls it toward the edge of the bed, turning the resident. Since no lifting is involved, staff can reduce back strain while protecting residents from decubitus ulcers. The FREEDOM TURNER can remain beneath the resident, so that when another turning is required, the procedure can be repeated from the other side of the bed. The resident's skin integrity is never compromised because draw sheet drag and shear are eliminated.

Measuring 58"L x 29"W, the FREEDOM TURNER is machine washable and disinfectant safe.
