Dementia-Specific Policies and Procedures - Product Spotlight - Brief Article

Nursing Homes, March, 2002

Geriatric Resources, Inc., has released Dementia Specific Policies and Procedures for Long Term Care Facilities, which provides for standardized care practices for the Alzheimer's and other dementia-related residents in long-term care facilities. The manual includes both "Universal" and "Stage" specific protocols incorporating the OBRA care requirements, and references to the dementia stages, featuring Dr. Reisberg's Global Deterioration Scale.

Each policy and procedure addresses a particular subject listing the applicable OBRA/tag number references, citing a policy and outlining a procedure. The Universal protocols establish an organizational framework for a facility's Alzheimer's care and administration. The Stage Specific protocols further provide facilities with a more focused approached to ADL caregiving, targeting goals and interventions to each resident's level of dementia.

Dementia Specific Policies and Procedures for Long Term Care Facilities is part of the "Comfort Care" series, which also features more than 20 hours of specific dementia video training.
