Staffing less worrisome to CCRCs in the future - NH News Notes - continuing care retirement communities - Brief Article

Nursing Homes, June, 2003 by Douglas J. Edwards

Operators of continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs) are betting on a rosier staffing situation in the future than current conditions might indicate. That's the impression, at least, from a recent study conducted by the Continuing Care Accreditation Commission (CCAC) and CSD People Architecture, a designer of facilities for older adults, in which participants identified current and future concerns. While the staffing crisis was on the minds of 90% of respondents, only 59% cited staffing issues as a future concern.

Susan Ganson, director of quality and education for CCAC, suspects the notable drop in the concern about staffing might be attributable to providers' hope that regulations will subside, allowing them to tap into the creative skills of their employees. She also thinks providers are banking on the future success of current attempts to recruit and retain employees.
