HOUSEKEEPING EDUCATION/TRAINING PROGRAM

The Commercial Care Division of 3M introduces a computer-based system that instructs housekeeping staff on a variety of healthcare issues.

Healthcare facilities can use this program at all levels of training, in English and Spanish, via the computer. Training is performed through a series of point-and-click modules that include color graphics and audio instructions. An administrator can customize automatically stored and scored competency tests to make them more relevant to the facility. The system also produces certificates of completion to recognize employee achievement. The program package includes the instructional CD-ROMs, a training manual and Microsoft[TM] Powerpoint[TM] Presentations.

MEDICATION TRAINING CURRICULUM

ALFA University has completed a medication training program for the assisted living industry. The course is designed to provide frontline caregivers a "road map" for handling, dispensing and managing drug distribution. "Medication Training for Assisted Living" is a training manual covering topics such as residents' rights; metabolism of drugs; proper use of various drug packages; accurate documentation of medication use; ordering and receiving drugs from the pharmacy; and disposal of unused or discontinued drugs.

The training course includes detailed instruction for medication assistance, supervision and documentation, and requires caregivers to complete a written "Final Knowledge Review." Under observation by their supervisors, nonlicensed caregivers are also required to successfully perform medication supervision and distribution tasks.

INTERACTIVE MSDS CENTER

EMED's Interactive MSDS Center features a turning dial that reveals detailed information on each part of the MSDS (material data safety sheet), keeping employees involved in their Right-to- Know training. A full-color diagram of a typical MSDS is also featured as a reference on the backboard.

The Center also contains a sturdy shelf with a large, 4[inches] D-ring binder, complete with 20 clear protective holders. Mounting hardware is also included for wall attachment.
