(1.) Per capita personal income was computed using Census Bureau
midyear population estimates. Estimates for 2000-2001 reflect county
population estimates available as of April 2003.

(2.) Percent change calculated from unrounded data.

(3.) The personal income level shown for the United States is
derived as the sum of the county estimates. It differs from
the estimate of personal income in the national income and
product accounts (NIPAs) because of differences in coverage,
in the methodologies used to prepare the estimates,
and in the timing of the availability of source data. In
particular, it differs from the NIPA estimate because,
by definition, it omits the earnings of Federal civilian
and military personnel stationed abroad and of U.S.
residents employed abroad temporarily by private U.S. firms.

(4.) Includes Metropolitan Statistical Areas, Primary Metropolitan
Statistical Areas (PMSAs designated by *), and New England County
Metropolitan Areas (NECMAs). The New Haven-Bridgeport-Stamford
-Danbury-Waterbury, CT NECMA is presented as a PMSA (part of the
New York CMSA).
