Activation of new wing at Ramstein Air Base: commanded by Colonel Richard B. Weathers

Air Force Comptroller, July, 2004

The 38th Combat Support Wing was activated on 25 May 2004 at Ramstein Air Base, Germany. The 38th CSW is commanded by Colonel Richard B. Weathers, who was serving as the USAFE Comptroller. This activation provides COMUSAFE a wing with functional expertise dedicated to geographically separated units (GSU). The GSUs under the purview of the 38th CSW are spread throughout the USAFE AOR extending from the Northern tip of Norway to the Southern tip of Africa. General Robert H. "Doc" Foglesong stated the new wing makes sense--it streamlines the GSU support functions and places them under one wing commander. There will be no change to the way our GSUs operate day-to-day. It's just a smarter way of conducting business and serving our customers better.

The 38th Combat Support Wing traces its lineage to the 38th Tactical Missile Wing, which was activated on 18 June 1958, and composed of launch and maintenance squadrons at Sembach Air Base, Hahn Air Base, and Bitburg Air Base.

Congratulations!
