Indicators: Careering Along - Brief Article - Statistical Data Included

American Demographics, May, 2000 by Jennifer Lach

What are the hot jobs today? According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, nearly half of total employment growth last year occurred in high-paying managerial and professional jobs. Roughly 940,000 positions were added, with positions for school teachers, computer scientists, lawyers, and social workers showing some of the strongest employment gains.

By comparison, service occupations dropped 313,000 workers from their rolls from 1998 to 1999. Maybe that explains why customer service is so lousy these days.
