Two sexes make a 'Breed' - Feedback - Letter to the Editor

Chief Executive, The, Nov, 2003 by Alexandra Lebenthal

"The New Breed" of CEO (Cover Story, August/September 2003) suggests we are entering an era of a more humane leader who understands that communication and team building are the best tools for success.

Yet although you profile two successful women CEOs--Christine Jacobs of Theragenies and, in a separate story, Marilyn Carlson Nelson of Carlson Companies--your illustrations indicate the new breed is entirely male.

While no set of virtues is ever gender-biased, typically women leaders exhibit the very qualities you write about. I hope that if this story is revisited several years from now the CEO image you choose will at least be wearing pumps.
