Separation anxiety
Chief Executive, The, July, 2005 by Steven S. Anreder
We commend your article on whether the positions of CEO and board chairman should be separated ("Should the Top Roles Be Split," May 2005). One size clearly does not fit all. There are companies for which separation does make enormous sense, and many for which it doesn't.
Too often we try to legislate or regulate our way on issues that need neither. That can only sow the seeds of future problems while also hobbling companies. If it ain't broke, why fix it?
