Management and Cultural Values -- The Indigenization of Organizations in Asia explores issues of emergent Asian patterns of management and organizational functioning influenced by traditional social values, attitudes, and institutional norms. The contributors to this book show that management and work activities in an enterprise depend to a large extent on social values and indigenous management practices. The book comprises eighteen original essays which are divided into four different sections; conceptual issues, work culture, values and organizations, and finally indigenous factors in managerial leadership. Illustrations and examples from Mainland China, Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Thailand, Taiwan and India are also included in the book. Overall, the book integrates Western and Asian systems into a synergetic system that is not only congruent with socio-cultural realities, but is also functional and effective.
