As editor of NATO Review, I once published a photo that was purported to be of the Swedish Prime Minister Goran Perssons, but which turned out to be of someone much more svelte. After a sharp-eyed reader inquired what diet the minister was on--and I verified that he had not gone on a crash regime--the evidence was overwhelming that it was not the bun vivant Perssons. I duly drafted a letter of apology to the Swedish Embassy and published a correction in the following issue. The moral: double-checking agency captions is worth more than a pound of flesh.
