New conferences address financial management and business writing

Communication World, July-August, 2005

With more employers reporting that financial management and business writing skills are essential workplace competencies, IABC is responding with two new conferences that will offer professionals the knowledge and tools they need for more effective communication.

The IABC Financial Management Conference, 20-21 September, at The Yale Club in New York City, will teach midlevel to advanced topics in financial communication. Content to be addressed will include budgeting, ROI beyond the numbers, communicating company financials, working with financial media and corporate governance.

IABC's Business Writing Conference, 5-6 October, at the Crowne Plaza Allerton in Chicago, Illinois, is cosponsored by Ragan Communications. Internationally acclaimed expert Don Ranly, Ph.D., will lead a three-hour review of grammar, style and punctuation. Other featured speakers and/or topics will include Mark Ragan and Jim Ylisela on how to improve headlines, leads and quotes; Wilma Mathews, ABC, on writing for the media; and sessions on writing executive speeches, writing magazine feature articles, writing for the web and using weblogs as a communication tool.
