The Real New Miium
Training & Development, Jan, 2001
And we swore last January that we'd never use that word again. But some sticklers insist 2001 is the true and scientifically accurate beginning of the...you know what...so it does present another opportunity to start fresh again, bring in the new, show the old the screen door. So, we are going to try to do our part.
To whit, T&D has dropped a few departments (Bizz, Incoming, Get With IT, Survey Says) and incorporated information about those topics into News You Can Use and other departments. And we are introducing two new columns. One is Diary of a Consultant by David Zahn, in which he will record and share his trials and tribulations leaving the cozy comfort (relatively speaking) of the corporate world to start his own business. The other is E-Course Reviews in the Products section. These are objective ratings of online courses, provided by the expert evaluators at Lguide.com.
The features start off with a proper New Year's bang: "Girl Gangs" by Ann C. Logue uncovers underground networking groups of women in corporations. "Training's Hot!" by Shari Caudron casts a new eye on trainers' image and how the training field is regarded.
This is also the first time T&D has published fiction. Be sure to read "The Big (E)Sleep" by John Cone (VP of learning at Dell Computer in his usual guise and Raymond Chandler wannabe) about Dirk Web, detective on the case of the missing training program. It's a potboiler!
And don't miss the Special Contributors Page in this issue to get to know the members of T&D's Editorial Board Core Group. We discovered another, lighter side to each of these exemplar professionals.
Last, we are heralding T&D's brand new design, scheduled for rollout with the May issue.
So, stay with us for the Real New...you know what.
