Military MBA Announces First Merit Scholarship Recipient, $15,000 in Additional Scholarships Await Future MBA Applicants

PR Newswire,  May 1, 2008

WASHINGTON, May 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Military MBA announced the first recipient of its Merit Scholarships. Army captain Dongjin (Phil) Suh will receive $5,000 toward his education at MIT. Military MBA is awarding a total of $20,000 to four MBA students who begin studies in the upcoming school year, and continues to consider applicants for its remaining three awards.

"I want to congratulate Capt. Phil Suh on his academic excellence, cultural awareness and unique leadership skills within and across his military command," says Military MBA executive director, Greg Eisenbarth. "Phil had what we were looking for to succeed in MBA school and as a future leader in global business."

Phil Suh, a West Point graduate, has served five years as a US Army officer, working in leadership roles for organizations, including mobile communications, logistics, and information technology. He's managed a platoon of 40 personnel, logistics for a battalion of 500, and developed theater IT strategies for over 50,000 soldiers. Adding to his global perspective are the diverse cultures in which he's operated, including Belgium, Germany, Iraq and Kuwait. Phil is pursuing an MBA at the MIT Sloan School of Management; his long-term goal is to work in economic development of emerging countries.

"Through an MBA, I'll gain the necessary technical skills and further develop my understanding of the major underlying issues plaguing developing countries, and ultimately, cultivate solutions toward long-term sustainable growth," explains Suh. "I hope to become a member of this great global community to work towards sustainable development and the eradication of poverty."

Military MBA launched its Merit Scholarships after identifying major gaps in education programs and support for military personnel. Although a master's degree is often required for military career advancement, needs are often greatest at the graduate-degree level where qualified students exist and adequate funding is unavailable.

In addition to the Merit Scholarships, Military MBA also launched an online scholarship hub to provide troops with centralized access to another half million dollars in scholarships for MBA education.

Merit Scholarship applications are still being considered for the final three awards. Preference in close decisions is given to early applicants, so interested students should submit their applications as soon as possible to: http://www.militarymba.net/scholarships.html .
