Telecom Billing System Is Ported to Microsoft .NET and Catapulted Into the Future Using Ice Tea Group Migration Technology

WASHINGTON, May 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Ice Tea Group, LLC (ITG) announced the migration of a large telecom billing system from Gupta Team Developer to the modern Microsoft .NET platform.

The migration project was completed by fecher (http://www.fecher.eu/), ITG's Premium Porting Partner for Central Europe and North America, in record time and within budget. The original application was based on Gupta Team Developer, an enterprise-level 4GL widely used in the '90s, and adopted by telecoms worldwide for the billing of their services.

The original billing software had grown over many years and it is currently intensively used by large telecom customers all over the world. A complete rewrite would not have been feasible. fecher was able to offer a viable alternative with The Porting Project(TM) (http://www.iceteagroup.com/Porting.aspx). The combination of automated code transformation through an advanced porting tool and professional manual work done by experienced Gupta and .NET developers guaranteed the client with a fixed and predictable project lifetime and cost.

Despite the complexity of the original system, with 22 applications, 173 libraries, 670 forms, 15,600 controls and more than 10,000 functions, the full migration to .NET took less than six months from start to finish. The projects included the enhancement of the new application to fully support UNICODE and localization.
