"We're excited and honored to share our new magazine's Fun with a Purpose with the children of Korea," said Highlights Chief Executive Officer Kent Johnson. English is taught as a second language in most Korean primary and secondary schools. There is a demand for materials to support English language acquisition. "Because High Five is filled with colorful illustrations that help young listeners understand the English text, it is ideally suited for children who are learning English," Johnson remarked.
Each Hello Friend will contain the same stories, poems, puzzles and activities that appear in the North American edition. The cover of the new edition includes a Korean-language masthead. While the magazine is enjoyed in the U.S. by children up until 6 years of age, when they graduate to Highlights magazine, Hello Friend is appropriate for English-learners of all ages.
Highlights High Five's first issue arrived in homes in January of 2007. Already one of the best-read magazines for children 2 to 6 years of age, it has received iParenting's coveted Media Award for magazines and was named one of the hottest magazine launches of 2007 by min (magazine industry newsletter).
JY Books, one of the leading Korean publishers of children's English education books, distributes carefully developed English-language materials from foreign publishers worldwide. By providing children with quality reading materials based on sound early-childhood educational principals and practices, JY Books helps Korea's children become successful readers.
Highlights High Five is published by Highlights for Children. Its flagship publication, Highlights magazine, recently printed its one-billionth copy, and the company has expanded to include a toy catalog, several online destinations, including the popular HighlightsKids.com, and a children's book publishing division.
