Draft Larry Ahrens?

New Mexico Business Journal, Dec, 2001

An Albuquerque outfit calling itself the "Draft Larry Ahrens" Committee is attempting to do just that. It has in mind a new job for the popular KOB radio talk jockey, that of governor of New Mexico, calling him a most worthy adversary of that "East Coast Ambassador" Bill Richardson.

According to the committee chairman, Gary Montoya, "there is no question that Larry Ahrens can win the Republican nomination." Of course, Lieutenant Governor Walter Bradley, whose hat is in the gubernatorial ring, may beg to differ, and so may former Governor Garrey Carruthers, who could be a candidate.

Although the news release we received made no mention of it, Richardson is not without some experience in New Mexico, having been a congressman here for a number of years. No matter. But would Ahrens give up a lucrative radio career on the chance that he could be nominated, much less elected? No word from Larry.
