New Mexico Business Journal, Feb, 2001

(May 1983)

"Says Bill Lang of Albuquerque Publishing Co., 'We believe in newspapers...We wouldn't have invested the kind of money we did in our new plant if we didn't think the newspaper was going to continue in essentially the same form as it is now" Dismissing home computer hookups for news delivery as too expensive and standard television news as too structured to suit individual schedules, Lang said, 'I can take my newspaper out to the park and read it under a tree when I feel like reading. You can't do that with a computer."

You couldn't in 1983. to be sure. But that was before the Internet and a gazillion web sites offering news and information. And it was also before Cable News Network and other organizations offering round-the-clock news broadcasts. You can still read your newspaper under a tree, but a majority of Americans now secure their news from television Oh, yes, the Albuquerque Journal and Tribune have web sites.
