OK season for Chile - The Beat - New Mexico Chile pepper industry - Brief Article

New Mexico Business Journal, Jan-Feb, 2002

Chile lovers, and we suppose that's every living thing in New Mexico, need not fret overmuch about the chile crop. Even though growers had to battle such critters as the leafhopper, which reduced yields in the Hatch Valley, There was also some curly-top wilt here and there, but there was sufficient rainfall during the growing season to insure, at least, an average yield.

And the quality, says Mike Gillis at Gilroy Foods Southwest, is pretty good. Thus, servers in restaurants will continue to ask the Official State Question, "red or green"?
