We're No. 1

New Mexico Business Journal, May, 2001

It has always been reasonable to assume that New Mexico would be home to the highest percentage of Hispanic-owned businesses among the 50 states, and the 2000 Census has confirmed it. Actually, at 21.5 percent of the state's total, it's about four times the national average of 5.8 percent. New Mexico is well ahead of the next highest-percentage states, Texas, Florida and California; of the 131,700 businesses here, some 28,300 are Hispanic owned.

And according to the Census, there are 1.2 million Hispanic-owned businesses in the U.S. employing more than 1.3 million people and generating $186.3 billion in revenues in 1997.
