Goodbye, California

New Mexico Business Journal, Oct, 2001

It had to happen California, land of the dotcom, now has another one, in the form of a web sire that advises angst-ridden businesses where to go. Called vww.leavingcal.com, the site, according to its creator, Randy Lee, has experienced more than a quarter-million hits during its first two months on line.

Lee says the interest shown "confirms that after dealing with the exuberant energy rates, threats of 1 rolling blackouts, inflated property prices, exorbitant cost of living, outrageous gas prices and poor decisions by politicians, high unemployment rates and an economic recession are the straws that broke the camel's back for many residents and businesses." So Lee developed a site for those "who are fed up and want to relocate." The site contains links to state home pages, business development sites, weather conditions and real estate firms in the other states. Lee, by the way, lives in the San Francisco Bay Area and expresses no plans to leave.
