Where It's From

New Mexico Business Journal, Oct, 2001

For fiscal year 2000, general and selective sales taxes constituted approximately 41 percent of expected general fund revenues, or $1.6 billion. Income taxes are the second leading source of general fund revenues at almost 30 percent. New Mexico's natural resource taxes, rents, and royalties generate $586 million, or 15 percent. The state's investment produced $446 million, or 12 percent. Two percent comes from miscellaneous sources.

And where does it go? About halt to primary and secondary schools, 15 percent to higher education, 21 percent to health and human services, 21 percent to general government and 7 percent to public safety.
