The envelope, please

New Mexico Business Journal, Nov, 2001

Technology Ventures Corp., the Lockheed-Martin unit that has helped create 46 technology-based businesses and some 5,000 jobs in New Mexico since its founding in 1993, has won the Tibbetts Award, presented annually by the Small Business Administration's Small Business Innovation Program. TVC is a nonprofit corporation that commercializes technology generated by the state's national laboratories and research universities.

Among the projects cultivated by TVC is the Sandia Science and Technology Park, adjacent to the Lab. Its development corporation recently received a federal grant worth $370,000 for its Strategic Telecommunications Alliance and Resource Team, known as START. Its mission is to unify economic development efforts through the creation of a statewide integrated telecommunications structure. As you might expect, Senator Pete Domenici had something to do with the grant.
