Where business has a past as well as a future

New Mexico Business Journal, Dec, 1995

Diversity and business acumen combine to produce profits

The northwest region has been the home of the ancient Anasazi civilization, where cliff dwellings served as the center of a thriving trade and commerce with the Aztecs in the south and other Indian communities touched by the four winds.

More recently, the mix of Anglo, Hispanic and Indian resources has created a thriving economy with a unique diversity that compares to few in either the state or the nation. Along with more traditional crafts trade, you'll also find coal mining and oil, and gas exploration and drilling and processing.

The area touts five of the Private 100 companies in New Mexico, including Macaluso Oil Co., Dugan Production, Webb Chevrolet/Toyota, Dial Oil Co. and Ziems Ford. Major citites and communities in the area include Gallup, Grants, Farmington, Aztec, Bloomfield and Shiprock. Farmington and Gallup are the retail centers for surrounding rural areas, as well as towns and communities in the four states nearby.
