Gallup, NM: "Indian jewelry capital of the world."

New Mexico Business Journal, June, 1994

Pottery shards abound in the rural areas surrounding Gallup, where the casual hiker can easily come upon vast ranges of the patterned or painted pieces. Today's commercially produced pottery has evolved into a fine art form that rivals all other Native American crafts. From the black Santa Clara overlay style to the unpainted pottery and red bowls with white slip interiors of Hopi craftsmen, pottery design continues to be a ground for fertile imaginations and a beckoning light to collectors from around the world.

Navajo rugs remain popular, along with newer variations and styles, ranging from Yeis to Storm patterns. The designs are constantly evolving, retaining the centuries of progress, while reflecting new images and colors. Expensive, beautiful and intricate, the weaving of the Navajo is a hallmark of dedication to excellence in craftsmanship.
