University of New Mexico: a changing face - collaboration with the business sector - includes related article

New Mexico Business Journal, Sept, 1993 by E. David Grenham

UNM faculty and staff receive about $100 million for contracts and grants annually from government agencies supporting their research and for public service projects and sponsored instruction programs. The grants are expected to rise to $120 million.

UNM's GRADUATES include half of the state's pharmacists, a fourth of the state's teachers, a third of the state's doctors and a third of the state's lawyers and legislators.

UNM Business Link, a networking system connecting business and professionals with technical and other support, continues to help Albuquerque's business people make use of the resources available at the university.

The Bureau of Business and Economic Research gathers and interprets data on the state's economy and provides reports and information to the private sector.

The data bank at the bureau contains over 12,000 books, pamphlets and periodicals from public and private sources.

UNM's continuing education program offers specific and customized training for business and professionals, and the program will have to grow to accommodate the training needs of the future work force.
