FOOD AND BEVERAGE CLOSE-UP-6 May 2008-Stonyfield Farm Offers New Greek Yogurt Flavors(C)2008 - CloseUpMedia - newsdesk@closeupmedia.com
Stonyfield Farm, an organic yogurt-maker, is expanding the flavor offerings of its organic, authentically strained Greek yogurt, Oikos Organic.
New Blueberry and Honey flavor-on-the-bottom Greek yogurts join the Oikos Organic line of 0 percent fat favorites, Vanilla and Plain. The company stated that Oikos Organic is the only nationally distributed organic Greek yogurt on the market today.
Called "yiaourti" in Greece, Greek yogurt is thicker than regular yogurt. Authentic Greek yogurt like Oikos Organic owes its lavish texture to a centuries-old straining process that removes the whey (liquid) from the yogurt.
The new flavors of Oikos Organic Greek yogurt come in response to a growing number of consumers with a passion for Greek yogurt. The traditional way to eat Greek yogurt is drizzled with honey to add a little sweetness. Blueberry is the most popular fruit-on-the-bottom flavor for regular Stonyfield Farm yogurts. Both flavor-on-the-bottom varieties offer a healthy and delicious treat all in one convenient cup.
For hundreds of years, Greeks have prized strained yogurt for its richness and creaminess. Before the time of mechanical refrigeration, Greeks also knew that yogurt stayed fresh longer with the liquid strained off. Today we know that straining makes Greek yogurt naturally richer in protein than regular yogurt, and lower in carbohydrates.
Oikos Organic Greek yogurt reflects that tradition as a tangy, incredibly lush yogurt with twice the calcium of the leading Greek yogurt, according to the company.
