ENERGY RESOURCE-13 December 2006-Long Beach Container Terminal Taps Energy-Saving Storage Crane System from VYCON(C)2006 JeraOne - http://www.jeraone.com
VYCON, a designer and manufacturer of high-cycling energy storage flywheel systems, today announced that Long Beach Container Terminal at the Port of Long Beach has ordered six REGEN units for RTG cranes at its terminal.
The REGEN System is VYCON's emissions-reduction and fuel-savings crane energy storage system currently being used at the Port of Long Beach and the Port of Los Angeles.

"We pride ourselves on being the first to adopt new technologies for environmental improvements. We have tested several new options but have been most impressed with VYCON's REGEN system," said Kevin Hayes, vice president of Safety, Security and Maintenance and Repair for Long Beach Container Terminal. "We've had a chance to watch how the system works at the Evergreen and ITS terminals and that gave us the validation we needed to go forward with our purchase."
The first two units are scheduled for delivery as soon as possible and the balance of four units will be delivered sometime in early 2007.
"This sale indicates that our REGEN System is being accepted by the local operators as a solution to reduce emissions and to lower fuel costs," said Louis Romo, vice president Business Development, VYCON. "It opens an opportunity for VYCON to retrofit the approximately 250 AC type RTG cranes that are currently in operation in Southern California and polluting the air on a daily basis."
