Albemarle Corporation, a specialty chemicals company, has created a new division focusing on alternative fuel technologies.

Ray Hurley, who previously served as vice president-catalysts, was named vice president- alternative fuel technologies and will lead the new division.

In his new role, Hurley will develop market positions for Albemarle's catalysts in Canadian oil sands, coal-to-liquids, gas-to-liquids and biomass-to-fuel technologies, as well as focusing on alliance opportunities in alternative fuels.

"There are numerous, significant opportunities around the world to develop and enhance the availability of environmentally sustainable energy and fuels," said John M. Steitz, Albemarle senior vice president-business operations. "Under Ray Hurley's leadership, Albemarle is positioned to be the leading catalyst supplier for solutions to these challenges."
