Tennessee Nurses Foundation update

Tennessee Nurse, Spring, 2007 by Doris Davenport

The Tennessee Nurses Foundation has been active since our last update to the TNA membership. We have welcomed several new Board members including Pam Holder, DSN, RN, nursing education coordinator with the Tennessee Board of Regents, and Pat Smith, EdD, RN, from East Tennessee State University where she serves as dean of the School of Nursing. Thank you for your willingness to serve.

A TNF leadership scholarship award was provided to Fern Richie, DSN, RN, MTS. We look forward to hearing the outcome of her experience at the TNF leadership panel at the TNA Convention October 12-14 at the Knoxville Marriott. TNA members, don't forget that we have grants available through the TNF Nursing Research Grants Program if you are involved in research or other scholarly activity.

Also, in keeping with our mission to support leadership, the TNF Board of Directors voted for a donation to the Nursing Education Loan Forgiveness Program. We are certainly indebted to the efforts of Ann Duncan, MPH, RN, with the Tennessee Center for Nursing for spearheading the fundraising to support the funding of this initiative.

In the upcoming months, we will be involved in several activities directed toward the marketing and sale of the remaining copies of the recently published book, A 100 Year History of the Tennessee Nurses Association. If you have not yet purchased your copy, please visit www.tnaonline.org or contact the TNA staff for assistance. These keepsake books make great gifts for colleagues anytime, but don't forget May 6-12 is Nurses Week! Your picture may even be in the book, so be sure to get your copy today.

The TNF Board of Directors has also voted to support Kathy Denton, Member Services and IT Administrator, in attending several workshops/seminars on fundraising and grant writing. We look forward to the information and ideas that will result in her attendance, and we thank her for her willingness to attend.
