ETSU College of Nursing gets federal grant

Tennessee Nurse, Winter, 2006

Licensed practical nurse graduates of area Tennessee Technology Centers seeking a baccalaureate degree will benefit from a federal grant awarded to the College of Nursing at East Tennessee State University.

The $745,500 grant will allow ETSU to create a nursing advisement office at each site. The university will work with the LPN students at Tennessee Technology Centers in Elizabethton and Morristown and at sites in Greeneville and Kingsport to facilitate their transition into ETSU's baccalaureate program in nursing after graduation.

The ETSU College of Nursing has established partnerships with local hospitals and health care agencies that will help fund education through tuition reimbursement of those LPN graduates who are employed by the agencies and are pursuing bachelor's of science in nursing degrees.

The Nickels N.U.R.S.E. Center at ETSU provides free tutoring and peer mentoring for nursing students, and the staff available to provide assistance with applying for financial aid and admission to ETSU as well as planning an individualized course of study.

Project Directors are Dr. Priscilla Ramsey, Dr. Sally Blowers, and Ms. Carolyn Merriman, APRN MS-BC of TNA District 5. LPN students interested in more information should contact Janelle Grooms at grooms@etsu.edu or call 423-439-4528.
