Calling NZ nurses

New Zealand nurses living in Australia are being urged to enrol to vote in the general election to be held in NZ at the end of this year.

Opinion polls show a significant lead for the opposition National Party over the Labour government led by Prime Minister Helen Clark.

The Nationals are on record as wanting to do away with many of the rights and protections NZ nurses and other workers currently enjoy, warns the NZ Council of Trade Unions.

The Nationals have specifically targeted the right to appeal against unfair dismissal, elected health and safety representatives in the workplace, and annual leave entitlements, says Carol Beaumont, NZCTU Secretary.
