Industry: Email Alert RSS FeedTEI Educational Programs a Sell-Out Success
Tax Executive, The, Nov, 1999
Two fourth-quarter educational programs sponsored by Tax Executives Institute were oversold. More than 250 people tried to register for the Federal Tax Seminar, Select GAAP Issues for Federal Tax Executives: Managing Effective Tax Rates and More, which was held in Chicago on November 18 and 19, 1999. Unfortunately, the facility could accommodate only 200. (The Continuing Education Committee had originally planned on only 100 people attending the program, but TEI scrambled to secure a larger meeting room as the program planned by Federal Tax Committee Chair Philip Cohen struck a chord with the membership. For the unlucky people who were turned away, the Institute is considering whether to hold the program again before the end of the fiscal year on June 30. (Any future program will be announced in The Tax Executive as well as on TEI On-Line.)

In addition, the Institute reached a capacity crowd of 170 registrants for its introductory International Tax Course, which was held in Indianapolis on December 5-10.
The sold-out programs emphasize the need to register early for TEI's upcoming educational programs. The popular Audits and Appeals Seminar will be held at the Orlando Marriott in Orlando, Florida on February 17-18, 2000. The program brochure will be mailed to TEI members within the next few weeks.
In addition, TEI's Midyear Conference will be held on March 18-22, 2000, at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Washington, D.C. Program information will be available soon.
For more information about either program, contact TEI Headquarters at (202) 638-5601.
TEI Meets with Canadian Officials
TEI's annual liaison meetings with the Department of Finance and the Canada Customs and Revenue Agency (formerly Revenue Canada) were held on December 7 and 8 in Ottawa. Separate meetings were held with the two agencies on income and excise tax issues. TEI's delegation to the meeting was led by TEI President Charles W. Shewbridge, III, and TEI's Regional Vice President-Region I Marlie R.M. Burtt.
The agendas for the meetings are reprinted in this issue beginning on page 536. They were prepared under the aegis of the Institute's Canadian Income Tax committee, whose chair is John M. Allinotte of Dofasco Inc., and its Canadian Commodity Tax Committee, whose chair is Glen S. Pye of Nortel Networks Corp.
