Finisar, AirMagnet Partner to Integrate Wireless and Wireline Analysis and Monitoring
Market Wire, September, 2004
Finisar Corp. (NASDAQ: FNSR), a provider of award-winning network monitoring and analysis solutions, today announced a partnership with AirMagnet, the leader in wireless LAN security and performance products. This partnership will enable Finisar to offer its customers an integrated wired and wireless LAN network management and troubleshooting solution. Finisar will offer AirMagnet's comprehensive line of WLAN security and performance solutions, including AirMagnet Mobile, Distributed and Reporter, along with its robust network monitoring and analysis tools as an integrated solution within the Finisar LAN analysis product suite.
Finisar's LAN Surveyor product for monitoring and analysis of 10/100 and Gigabit Ethernet networks will now include AirMagnet's monitoring and analysis solutions for 802.11 a/b/g wireless networks. Finisar Surveyor users will now have the ability to launch the AirMagnet wireless solutions from the Finisar Analyzer GUI with just one click. The total solution will allow network managers and LAN architects to monitor, measure, analyze and troubleshoot their entire 10/100/Gigabit Ethernet wired LAN and WLAN infrastructure from a single console.
"Many IT organizations face the important decision on integrating their wired and wireless networks. This ultimately should depend on the business requirements," states Stephen Elliot, senior analyst, Network Management, IDC. "This integration demands a set of management tools that ensures performance continuity and airtight security on both the wired and wireless side of the network. Finisar and AirMagnet's partnership provides enterprises a solution that provides a holistic view of the combined network, with the accompanying functionality to ensure its reliability and enforce its security."
AirMagnet's comprehensive line of WLAN security and performance solutions allows network administrators to monitor, administer and secure an organization's WLAN during its complete lifecycle, from installation to on-going deployment. The company also offers the industry's most complete set of security tools -- alerting users to potential network trespassers and rogue access points, a dozen different kinds of Denial of Service attacks, spoofs, dictionary attacks, and other exploits that can cripple a wireless network.
"We have recently bought a Finisar (wired) Surveyor LAN analysis tool as our primary protocol analyzer," said Joseph Palmeri, Chief Technology Officer, Kramer, Levin, Naftalis & Frankel, a premier, full-service law firm with 280 attorneys and offices in New York and Paris. "We conducted our due diligence on all available products for a similar tool for our WLAN and concluded the best-of-breed tool available through Finisar and AirMagnet best met our needs."
"AirMagnet's extensive customer roster and reputation in the WLAN management space indicates that the company has what it takes to be our trusted partner and deliver the quality and performance that our customers are accustomed to with their wired networks," said Kevin Cornell, senior vice president and general manager of Finisar's Network Tools Division. "As a complement to our leadership in LAN monitoring and analysis, AirMagnet will help provide our customers with a secure, high performance network that saves both time and money regardless of network type."
"As wireless network deployment increases, the need for a robust, integrated wired and wireless network management solution grows," said Dean Au, president and chief executive officer for AirMagnet. "Our partnership with Finisar provides customers with an unmatched wired and wireless network management solution that offers real-time network monitoring and administration and ensures the highest level of security on both sides of the network."
