Persistence(R) Software Delivers First Enterprise-Class Data Access Tool for Microsoft .NET Developers
Market Wire, September, 2004
Persistence® Software (NASDAQ: PRSW), the technology leader for data access and caching infrastructure, today announced the availability of Persistence EdgeXtend(TM) for C#, Version 3 -- the only proven comprehensive platform enabling developers to build cost-effective, scalable object-oriented data access layers for enterprise-class Microsoft® .NET applications. EdgeXtend for C#, Version 3 is now available in both Professional and Enterprise Editions.
EdgeXtend for C# has been adopted by software vendor VCG to migrate its StaffSuite® product to the .NET platform. Additionally, WestLB AG, a leading European commercial bank, recently selected EdgeXtend for C# to build a new credit risk application using the .NET framework.
"WestLB is committed to the .NET platform for delivering innovative and cost effective solutions to our globally dispersed offices, and to increase our competitive edge," said K.C. Wong, Director of Banking Operations IT at WestLB AG. "Because of Persistence Software's experience and technical knowledge with business-critical applications in the financial services sector, we selected EdgeXtend to help build a stable, reliable data services layer for our .NET applications, enabling us to speed application development without sacrificing reliability."
EdgeXtend for C# leverages the Persistence core technology for high-performance data access, addressing data needs across the custom application lifecycle. EdgeXtend currently powers Java and C applications at world-class organizations such as AirFrance, AT&T, EuroControl, FedEx, and Reuters.
".NET developers can now achieve a level of data integrity, scalability and resilience that was previously reserved for high-end, high-cost UNIX systems," said Vivek Singhal, Vice President of Products at Persistence Software. "In fact, a company considering new development in .NET or migration to lower-cost PC hardware can use the cross-platform EdgeXtend product family to generate a consistent data model across their enterprise."
EdgeXtend for C# -- Data Access for the Real-Time .NET Enterprise:
Version 3 now includes features that offer the same level of robustness previously available in other members of this cross-platform product family, including Persistence EdgeXtend for Java and Persistence EdgeXtend for C .
Customers can now select the Professional Edition, which provides O-R mapping, or the Enterprise Edition, which adds runtime intelligent caching and cache clustering. Customers can seamlessly upgrade to the Enterprise Edition when they need distributed caching capabilities.
Key features for each stage of the application lifecycle include:
Development Stage: O-R mapping tools eliminate tedious hand-coding in ADO.NET and generate high quality, tested data access code, reducing application delivery times by up to 50% and defects by up to 90%. Version 3 now also includes a Database Explorer which allows developers to graphically browse a database schema, and drag-and-drop schema elements into the project.
Tuning Stage: Built-in, configurable intelligent caching allows safe, concurrent access to dynamically changing data without additional coding, dramatically improving response times and performance. Version 3 provides APIs to monitor activity within the cache, providing critical information that can be used to optimize cache performance for each application.
Deployment Stage: Cache synchronization delivers a cost-effective means of achieving scalability, failover, and high availability, while ensuring data integrity. New features in Version 3 include the ability for clustered servers using TCP messaging to automatically find and update each other on a local network, as well as automatic database re-connection in the event of a network outage.
Pricing and Availability
EdgeXtend for C# is available today and is backed by world-class support. Pricing for the Professional Edition starts at $499 per developer license without deployment fees and may be purchased online at www.persistence.com/store/.
