Paula Kelley Orchestra Wins Opening Slot at "The Reunion of a Generation" Halloween Show at Irving Plaza on October 29

Market Wire, October, 2004

Appealing to the judges with her unique pop sensibilities, ambitious songwriting, and lush arrangements, Paula Kelley has won the coveted slot opening for The Smithereens, Glenn Tilbrook (of Squeeze), Graham Parker, and Marshall Crenshaw at a special Halloween Concert at Irving Plaza in New York City on October 29.

The contest was judged by luminaries like producer Don Dixon (REM, The Smithereens, Hootie & the Blowfish), Maxim's STUFF Magazine Editor-in-Chief Mike Hammer, and Smithereens frontman Pat DiNizio. Besides opening for such legendary bands, the Paula Kelley Orchestra will receive other prizes, including a complete band set-up courtesy of Fender, Gibson, Rickenbacker, Gretsch, Fishman, Seymour Duncan, Shure, Guitar Center, and others.

"I'm thrilled to have this opportunity to perform with such stellar artists in a classic New York venue," says Paula. "I can't imagine a better East-coast send-off."

Paula Kelley will play her "Farewell to Boston" show on October 23 at T. T. the Bear's before heading to the Irving Plaza show and then she'll be moving to Los Angeles, where she will begin work on the follow-up to "The Trouble with Success."

With her most recent album, "The Trouble with Success or How You Fit into the World," Paula Kelley has created something unmatched in beauty and pop smarts. This is the baroque masterpiece that suggests everything she's done before was but the apprenticeship. Enhanced by a musical armada of thirty-eight musicians, "The Trouble With Success" boasts a brilliant array of instrumental hues and songs as irresistible as anything a pop hook connoisseur might pine for in these post-rock times.
