Muze Launches Similar Cinema
Market Wire, October, 2004
Demonstrating its continued commitment to pioneering new ways for retailers to enhance the consumer's buying experience, Muze, Inc.® today unveiled Similar Cinema(TM), a unique enhancement to their DVD and Video databases. Similar Cinema is a cross-promotional tool that allows retailers to suggest purchases of videos and DVDs related to customers' original searches and interests.
Similar Cinema, available to new and existing Muze customers, will give retailers the ability to offer consumers an average of three and up to twenty film suggestions related to their original searches and/or purchases, based on themes, story lines and time frames. These suggestions are compiled by Muze's staff of editorial experts. For example, a customer who is interested in purchasing the DVD "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest," might also be interested in contemporaries such as "Cool Hand Luke" or "Dog Day Afternoon," films condemning institutional bureaucracy such as "The Hospital" or films about mental illness such as "Shock Corridor" and "Awakenings." Similar Cinema contains all 21st Century theatrical feature film releases and films in the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress, the American Film Institute's 100 Greatest American Movies, plus films of important cultural, historical, and artistic significance. Upon its launch, over 22,000 videos and DVDs will be included.
"With DVD penetration exceeding 70 percent of U.S. households, and DVD sales predicted to reach the $16 billion mark by the end of 2004, Muze recognizes the market demand for new and innovative ways to present consumers with purchasing options," said Paul Zullo, founder and CEO of Muze. "Film enthusiasts and consumers alike will appreciate the depth and accuracy of Similar Cinema, and retailers will be thrilled by the increase in sales and customer loyalty."
Similar Cinema can be sold as a stand-alone product or packaged with Muze video data. The advantage of combining Similar Cinema with Muze's existing databases is the ability for retailers to cross-sell related products on their Websites. Similar Cinema also complements Muze's Essential Artists(TM) database.
