BroadVox Chooses TCS to Provide E9-1-1 VoIP Service
Market Wire, November, 2004
TeleCommunication Systems, Inc. (TCS) (NASDAQ: TSYS), a global leader in wireless data technology, announced today that BroadVox, a nationwide premier provider of Voice-Over-Internet-Protocol (VoIP) telephone service, has selected TCS as its E9-1-1 VoIP provider. BroadVox subscribers will be offered TCS' E9-1-1 network-based VoIP solution that provides routing of 9-1-1 calls to Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs), based on the caller's location. The TCS E9-1-1 VoIP service is designed to address current and emerging challenges for emergency services, caused by the rapid evolution of VoIP technologies.
"VoIP is rapidly becoming a primary phone line replacement," stated Jeffery Williams, Chief Information Officer for BroadVox. "Subscribers are already taking their VoIP services with them, when they move, or to their hotel rooms when they travel, or to their favorite coffee shop. We require a service that will evolve with our customers and provide true routing to live personnel for emergency services, and TCS has that service."
Solutions other than the TCS E9-1-1 VoIP product may take 24 to 48 hours for initial activation or subscriber updates to the location information of emergency dispatch service for an existing or new VoIP subscriber, while TCS offers tools that allow for validation of an existing or new user's location information within an hour in most instances. Timely validation means that TCS' solution works for subscribers -- ranging from those looking for a landline replacement to those providing the business traveler with VoIP connectivity on the road.
TCS has taken an active role and is directly engaged with VoIP providers, along with public safety and industry standards bodies, in working to provide the best possible solution for today's subscriber, especially since VoIP is a new and progressive technology. By participating in standards bodies and reaching out to individual PSAPs, TCS is ensuring their solution is designed to accommodate both existing systems and future technologies.
"BroadVox is interested in a complete, reliable solution for providing E9-1-1 with their comprehensive VoIP service and would not settle for less," said Robert Dawson, Senior Vice President of Service Bureau Operations for TCS. "E9-1-1 VoIP is a natural convergence of TCS' years of proven experience in deploying Internet Protocol solutions and providing wireless E9-1-1 services. We look forward to taking communications technology to the next level in the public safety arena."
