DataPower First Web Service Security Vendor to Undergo Common Criteria "EAL4 Assurance Level" Evaluation
Market Wire, November, 2004
DataPower, the creator and leading provider of intelligent XML-aware Networking (XAN) infrastructure, announced today that its DataPower XS40 XML Security Gateway(TM) is under evaluation for Common Criteria (CC) EAL4 Certification. The U.S. Government is one of fifteen countries that recognize the Common Criteria as the official, unbiased third-party evaluation criteria for IT security procedures. In evaluation with SAIC Labs since earlier this year, DataPower's XS40 becomes the first XML Web services Security Gateway to undergo compliance tests for these global requirements for security as set by Common Criteria. Detailed information on the Common Criteria and DataPower's evaluation can be found at The National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP) Web site at: http://niap.nist.gov/cc-scheme/in_evaluation.html#d
This EAL4 Common Criteria evaluation is the latest in DataPower's history of providing purpose-built and tested security that has enabled DataPower to become the most widely deployed and the security solution of choice for Global 1000 firms and government agencies. To ensure its readiness for real-world deployments, before shipping the XS40 two years ago, DataPower was the only XML security vendor to undergo third-party vulnerability testing. DataPower customers also benefit from the most experienced and sophisticated technical and executive teams assembled at a private company including Bret Hartman, co-creator of the famous NSA Orange Book that was the foundation of the Common Criteria framework; and Rich Salz, world-renown for his PKI, SOAP and XML security achievements and the chief security architect for DataPower's XS40.
"SAIC Labs is a leading evaluation lab focused on the vast majority of EAL4 assurance and above certifications. Evaluation for Common Criteria certification is the latest in DataPower's significant market and technical achievements to further demonstrate the XS40 XML Security Gateway as the most robust Web services security solution for real-world deployments," said Bret Hartman, VP of Technology Solutions at DataPower.
Shipping for two years, the XS40 XML Security Gateway is the most widely deployed Web services security gateway and has protected billions of dollars in real-world business transactions to date at some of the largest, Global 1000 companies. The XS40 combines hardened security, wirespeed performance and sophisticated, patented algorithms for XML threat protection and XML access control, including XML firewall, XDoS protection, SOAP filtering, SAML-based access control, XML schema validation, digital signatures, field-level XML encryption, XML/SOAP routing and service virtualization.
