Mellanox Launches the World's Smallest 10Gb/s Adapter
Market Wire, November, 2004
SuperComputing 2004 -- Mellanox(TM) Technologies Ltd., the leader in performance business computing interconnects, today announced the world's smallest 10Gb/s adapter -- showcasing InfiniBand's power, board space and cost leadership. Less than the size of a dollar bill, the MHEA28-XT Host Channel Adapter (HCA) leverages MemFree single-chip technology that provides dual 10Gb/sec InfiniBand ports across a 20Gb/sec PCI Express interface. This new adapter also provides the industry's lowest power (less than 5.5W per node) 10Gb/s server-to-server and server-to-storage interconnect. InfiniBand technology is widely deployed in parallel technical computing and data center applications in clusters ranging from tens to thousands of nodes. These clusters greatly benefit from lower power requirements -- reducing both upfront facilities costs and total cost of ownership.
Advanced Features and Performance
The MHEA28-XT utilizes MemFree and Remote Direct Memory Access (RDMA) technology, which removes the need for local memory to reside on the adapter card itself. Instead, all packet data and context information is stored directly in system memory, lowering the area, power and cost of this 10Gb/s adapter. The new InfiniBand HCA also features advanced integrated SerDes technology that extends the reach of 10Gb/sec signaling to as much as 40 meters over copper cables. For distances up to 300 meters, the HCA supports off-the-shelf fiber connectivity. Furthermore, to address the demands of next generation bandwidth intensive parallel processing and storage applications, an upcoming version of the MHEA28-XT will support 20Gb/sec per port.
The MHEA28-XT is available in sample quantities today with general availability in the first quarter of 2005. This HCA card is compatible with existing open source Linux software (www.openIB.org) and Windows solutions.
